North Shore Schizophrenia Society
Lecture Series
(public education evenings)

Services for the mentally ill, the latest in research, new medications, innovations in diagnosis and treatment, what families need to know and want to know.... The NSSS lecture series covers the gamut. These public education meetings, held four times a year in the auditorium at Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver, are the longest continuous lecture series on serious mental illness in Canada, dating back almost to the inception of the North Shore Schizophrenia Society (originally B.C. Friends of Schizophrenics, North Shore Branch) in the early 1980s.

Starting in 2010, the lecture series has been extended to the Sea to Sky corridor with lectures in Squamish and Pemberton.

The meetings are more than just lectures. Well-attended and often lively - and popular with regulars - they allow family members, those with the illness, professionals and the general public to ask questions and get answers directly from experts and service providers. The question-and-answer interchange makes each session particularly valuable.

The series is advertised in The Notepad, community newspapers, event listings, posters, and in the News and Events section on our home page. Any suggestions for new locations for our posters will be welcome. The Lions Gate Hospital Auditorium is located on the lower level at the southern end of the building, downstairs from the 13th Street entrance. Yellow arrows showing the way to the auditorium are posted on lecture nights for those not familiar with the hospital layout.

Below is a list of past lectures. Note the links in blue.
