Christmas banquet
Ho!
Ho! Ho! Every year, in early December, the North
Shore Schizophrenia Society hosts a Christmas
banquet for members, their ill relatives, and
psychiatric patients from across the North
Shore. The West Vancouver Adult Pops Band,
organized by Dr. Tom Calder, accompanies diners
with its lively repertoire of Christmas music.
Santa Claus always makes an appearance to hand
out gifts and share his merry laughter. Live
entertainment follows. Over 100 people attend,
including families and friends. It's one of the
most joyous and anticipated events of the
Christmas season.
The Christmas banquet
has been held on
the first Saturday of December for many years,
and has been at St. David's United
Church in West Vancouver since 2008. St. David's has a
large room for the banquet, a huge kitchen with
a dishwasher (saving the volunteers from dishpan
hands), a stage for the performers, two pianos
and much more. Thanks to everyone who
donates their time and energy to make each
Christmas banquet even better than the last.
