The North Shore Schizophrenia Society mounts exhibits with information on schizophrenia and other serious mental illnesses, on
NSSS itself, and on the work of the Family Support Centre. Events include
the Volunteer Fair and Festival of Volunteers,
two annual showcases for North Shore non-profit
agencies at Park Royal Mall, sponsored by North
Shore Community Resources. We also have
displays at the
Transition Planning Fair for Young Adults with
Special Needs at the Lucas Centre, North
Vancouver. Other locations have included the lobby of Lions Gate Hospital, municipal libraries, and the opening of a community credit union branch.
We have had other exhibits at the West Vancouver
Memorial Library and Capilano Mall for events
such as national Mental Illness
Awareness Week.
The North Shore Schizophrenia Society also distributes information leaflets at special events, most notably,
in the past, A Night At the Opera,
a fundraiser for Lloyd Burritt's The Dream
Healer, an opera in which the main character
is schizophrenic, and the showing in North Shore movie houses of
A Beautiful Mind, the film about Nobel Prize winner John Nash, who suffers from schizophrenia. If you know of an event that might be interested in a
NSSS exhibit, information table, or speaker, please
contact us. |
